취중 비전

드리밍 사진일기를 중심으로 글을 쓰는 일-
하루에 두어시간 정도를 할애하고자 하는 계획이 잘 실행되기를 바란다.
오늘 아침에 마친 글 한 편을 올린다.

취중 비전_

누구나 한두가지 쯤은 '술'로 인해 겪게 되는 재미있는 경험을 가지고 있겠지만,
나의 경우, 술로 인해 발생한 영향을 '카메라'와 더불어 증거물을 남겼던
흥미로운 실험이 있다.

동료들과의 회식 분위기에 취기가 무르익어가던 즈음, 알코홀 기운으로 촛점이
불분명해진 나의 시선은 문득 안주로 시킨 두부찌개 위에 머물렀고, 빛의 반사에
의해 발생한 온갖 색상들이 어른거리는 찌개 국물의 표면을 흥미롭게 관찰하고
있었다. 세상에. 저 고운 빛깔들 좀 봐... 실내를 밝히고 있던 백열등과 형광등이
서로 다른 성격의 빛을 발산하며 반사에 민감한 모든 표면에 황홀한 '색'의
파노라마를 만들어 내는 것을 발견한 나는 마치 마법에 홀린 듯 하였다.
두부찌개의 표면에서 스테인레스 냄비의 가장자리로, 녹두전을 담아 내온 철판 위로,
테이블 위를 종횡무진하는 젓가락들로, 그리고 투명한 소주잔 위로 이어지는, 평소의
온전한 시선으로는 도저히 발견할 수 없을 것 같은 새로운 빛깔의 차원에 발을 들여
놓은 듯 나는 망막의 새로운 지점에 맺힌 온갖 형상들이 발산해 내는 황홀한 빛깔들에
온통 정신을 팔고 있었다.

멀겋고 탁한 주황색 정도라고만 기억되던 두부찌개의 표면 위로는 화사한 오렌지와
연어빛을 띈 핑크가 감돌고 스테인레스 냄비로부터 다시 한번 반사된 퍼플과 함께
경계를 넘어선 보색들의 놀이가 한창이었고, 녹두전이 담긴 철판 위로는 새러리안에서
코발트, 퍼플에 이르기까지의 온갖 블루들의 향연이 벌어지고 있었다. 보석처럼 찬란한
빛의 잔에 담겨진 소주는 이미 지상의 술이 아니었고, 잔으로부터 넘쳐난 소주는
사막에서 발견한 오아시스처럼 식탁 위에 에메랄드 빛 맑은 샘을 이루고 있었다.
뿐만이 아니었다. 이동 속도가 느려진 나의 시선은 형상과 형상 사이에 수없이 많은
단계의 잔영을 만들어 내었고, 그 잔영의 단계만큼 배가된 빛의 파노라마는 시간의
흐름이 만들어 내는 모든 단계를 동시에 진열하고 있는 듯 시야는 빛에 의해 연출된
황홀함의 극치를 이루고 있었다.

내가 보고 있는 걸 혹 카메라도 볼 수 있을까...? 문득 궁금해진 나는 카메라를 꺼내어
실험을 해보기로 했다. 나의 시선을 통해 발견한 모든 지점을 하나 하나 일러주듯
카메라의 파인더를 통하여 다시 한번 그 지점들을 돌아 보아도 나의 시야는 여전히
놀라운 빛의 형상들로 가득하였지만, 문제는 카메라가 그것을 어떻게 받아 들일
것이냐였다. 술에 취한 것은 카메라가 아니니 맨 정신의 시선이 당연할 것이고,
내 눈에 보이는 것을 카메라도 볼 수 있는지, 볼 수 있다면 과연 그것을 기록해 낼 수
있는지, 그것에 대한 확신이 없었기 때문이다.
카메라야 보아라. 이 세상에 눈으로 보여지는 모든 것들을 기록해야 할 책임과 의무를
가지고 태어난 네가 네 방식대로의 눈으로만 세상을 보려 한다면 내 눈으로는 보았지만
네 눈으로는 보지 못하므로 기록하지 못한 것들은 어찌 하려느냐. 그것들은 그러므로
존재했던 것이냐, 존재한 적이 없었던 것이냐... 셔터를 누르며 달래듯 윽박지르듯
카메라와의 대화를 시도해 보지만 내 손에 잡힌 카메라는 여전히 차갑고 냉정한
평소의 모습 그대로였다.

하지만, 이후 그날의 사진을 열어보고는 나는 미소짓지 않을 수 없었다. 사진 속에는
그날 내가 보았던 빛의 향연이 그대로 담겨 있었고, 희미해지려는 나의 기억을 다시
한번 생생하게 돌려놓아 주었다. 그날 카메라와 내가 통하였는지는 알 수 없지만 한가지
분명하게 깨닫게 된 것은 내가 흔들리면 카메라도 흔들린다는 사실이다. 그러므로,
내가 취하면 카메라도 취한다는 사실이다.
