앙코르 와트 가는 길_02_국경을 넘어
호텔을 떠난 시간이 7시반이고 캄보디아 비자를 발급받기위해
줄을 선 것은 8시에 불과했으나 국경지대의 아침은 이미 부산하다 못해
혼잡을 이루고 있다.
과일과 야채 등을 팔기위해 캄보디아로 건너가려는 태국사람들과
태국 쪽으로 건너와 노동으로 일당을 벌으려는 캄보디아 사람들이
저마다의 생업을 위해 국경을 넘는 시간이 시작된 것이다.
신발조차 없이 맨발로 걷는 사람이 반은 되어보이는 것이
여자와 남자,어린아이에서 어른에 이르기까지 하루의 삶을 벌기위한
그들의 노력은 매우 절박해보인다.
비자를 받기위해 길고 긴 줄이 늘어서 있지만 공공연한 급행료를 받은
캄보디아의 관리들은 관행대로 우리의 비자를 우선적으로 처리해준다.
'Kingdom of Cambodia'라고 쓰여있는 문을 지나 우리는
캄보디아의 접경도시인 포이펫에 진입한다.
기다리고 있던 버스에 오르니, 반갑게도 한국의 아시아 자동차에서 만든
버스이다. 하지만 얼마나 오래된 버스인지 'made in Korea'라는 명칭이
무색할 정도이다. 비포장도로이나마 태국 땅을 달려온 버스와는 비교할 수
없을만큼 낡고 협소한 버스이지만, 성능만큼은 놀랍다고 하니 믿어볼 뿐이다.
포이펫에서 다시 버스로 4시간 정도를 가야 씨엡립에 당도하게 된다.
고대하던 앙코르 와트가 가까워 옴을 느낀다...
