CEO의 고충을 나누며
낮에 홍디자인의 대표인 홍성택 님과 점심식사를 함께 하게 되었다.
10주년 기념 파티 때 보내주신 커다란 꽃바구니에 대한 감사의 말씀을
전할 겸 전화를 드렸더니만 오히려 행사 때 오지 못하였노라 미안해 하며
꼭 점심을 한 끼 사겠노라 하였던 약속이 어제였던 것이다.
하긴, 점심 한번 같이... 하던 약속은 작년부터(혹은 재작년부터일지도...)
벼르던 일이라 이미 해를 넘긴 약속이라고도 할 수 있겠지만 바쁜 일과 중에
점심 한끼를 위해 강 건너 삼청동까지 오는 일이 얼마나 어려운 일인지...
아무튼 감사한 마음에 또한 망중한의 귀한 시간을 함께 의미있게 보낼 겸
의기투합하여 장장 3시간에 걸친 긴 점심시간을 갖게 된 것이다.
디자이너들의 모임이외에 별도로 만난 적은 없어도 원래 괜한 이야기하며
시간 때우는 스타일들이 아닌지라 우리는 대번에 서로간에 궁금해 하던
주제들에 진입하여 진지한 대화를 나누게 되었고 그런 과정에서 자연스럽게
일치되는 주제는 다름 아닌 'CEO'로서의 서로의 입장에 대해 공감할 수
있는 그런 내용들이었다.
회사의 규모와 규모에 따른 운영과 경영의 문제, 직원의 채용과 교육에
대한 문제, 회사의 발전 과정에 따라 변화하는 팀원간의 인터렉션과
팀웍의 문제, 늘 머리 속을 떠나지 않는 그 다음 프로젝트의 수주에 대한
걱정과 클라이언트와의 관계에 대한 문제점과 해결책, 나아가서는
디자인회사의 미래에 대한 비전과 방향에 대한 문제에서부터 지극히
개인적인 지점에서의 각자의 고민과 갈등에 이르기까지
우리가 어제 점심시간 동안의 대화를 통해 서로 공감한 부분은 새삼
다 열거할 필요가 없을 정도이다.
크나 작으나 한 회사를 이끌어 나가는 일에는 여러가지 어려움과 아픔이
따르기 마련이다. 스스로 선택해서 진 짐이기는 하지만, 한 회사의 대표라는
입장은 아무리 어렵고 힘들어도 그 속내를 모두 드러낼 수 있는 입장이
아니기도 하다. 한 회사를 대표하여 의젓하고 당당하게 살아 나가는 일에
포함된 복잡다단한 의미를 모두 이해할 수 있는 대상이 가까이에는
존재하지 않는다는 점에 있어서도 우리는 일년이나 이년에 한번쯤이라도
서로에게 정말 필요한 대화의 상대가 아닌가 싶다...
