생일 선물

올해는 아무도 기억을 못해줬으면...하는 생각을 해마다 하지만
실제로 아무도 기억을 못해준다면 어떨지는 아직 경험해보지 못한 생일-
오늘, 올해도 잊지않고 사람들은 생일케익과 선물을 준비하여
나의 한살 더 나이들어감을 나에게 상기시켜 준다.
하지만 그런 표현은 괜한 나의 강박관념+복에 겨운 어리광이 분명하고,
나의 생일을 기억하여 축하의 마음을 전하는 가족들 동료들은
이만큼 살아온 내 삶에 대한 소중한 증거물이며 결과물이니
함께 생일축하 노래를 부르고 촛불을 부는 그 머쓱한 과정이 대변하는
소중한 의미를 다시 한번 새기게 된다.
(참고로, 바프식구들의 축하노래는 시작 한 소절의 '생일축하합니다~'와
마지막 한 소절의 '생일축하합니다~'로 진작에 결론을 보았다.)

우리끼리의 관습대로 생일선물로 요청하여(?) 받은 '아령'은 꼭 마음에 든다.
운동을 잘하지도 좋아하지도 않는 나이지만, 운동을 잘하는 것처럼 또한
좋아하는 것처럼 보이는 것에 대해서는 늘 희망하는 바이다.
그러므로, 아마도 이 멋진 디자인의 아령은 내 책상 주변을 장식하는
소품으로 먼지를 뒤집어 쓴 채 방치될 가능성이 다분하지만 최소한,
이 아령을 이용하여 짬짬이 팔운동 같은 걸 잘 한다면 탄탄한 근육의
예쁜 팔뚝을 갖게 되리라는 희망은 희망만으로도 기분이 좋아진다.

이런저런 일들로 아무래도 퇴근이 늦어질 것 같아 가족들과의 약속은
내일로 미루어 놓고 있었는데 의외로 일찍 일을 마치게 되니
생일날 저녁의 '스케줄'이 갑자기 모호하게 되버렸다.
문득, 내 생일날, 정작 나는 나에게 무슨 선물을 해줄건데... 하는
생각이 들었다. 가만 있자... 서둘러 사무실을 나서면 7시부터의 저녁 시간을
잘 활용할 수 있으리라는 생각에 나의 순발력과 창의력이 결정한 계획은
다름아닌 '맛사지'였다.

어떠한가. 생일날 나에게 주는 나의 선물- 맛사지.
그동안 애썼던 나의 삶을 치하하기 위해 지치고 피곤했던 나의 심신을
지극하게 돌보아 줌은 타당하지 아니한가. 그간 소홀하였던 '몸'에 대한
여러가지 일 중 '아름다움'에 관한 일은 '건강'과 더불어 이때 쯤의 내 나이에
돌아봐야 할 정말 중요한 일이 아니던가.
일사천리로 전화하여 예약을 하고 나니 나의 생일날 저녁의 스케줄은
극도로 '럭셔리'하게 탈바꿈을 하였다. 배부르게 먹고 취하는 대신,
그간 수고하였던 내 몸을 진심으로 아끼고 돌보아 주는 시간을 과감히
선물하게 된 것이다.

아무도 모르는 멋진 생일 선물을 스스로에게 하고 난 후 행복한 마음으로
집에 돌아오니 어머니께서 '너 하고 다녀라' 하시며 건네시는 따스하고
포근한 분홍빛 목도리. 어머나, 이거 딱 이팔청춘의 색깔이네요.. 했더니
어머니께서 환하게 웃으신다.

글을 쓰다 어느 결에 잠들어 버렸는지 깨고 나니 아침.
창밖엔 끝없는 눈송이들이 빙글빙글 춤을 추며 하늘로부터 내려오고 있다.
어제 밤 일기예보에 오늘은 중부지방에 함박눈이 온다고 하더니만...
소담스러운 함박눈까지 선물로 받게된 올해의 생일-
일년 내내 좋은 일만 있을 것 같다...
