북경_07_평양옥류관
한국인 관광객들에게 북경이 또다른 의미를 줄 수 있다면 그것은
북한동포들과 북한의 문화를 만날 수 있다는 점일 것이다.
오랜 세월 대치되어온 냉전체제의 역사 속에 외곡된 교육의 영향으로
우리들의 머리 속에 상상할 수 있는 북한과 북한동포들의 모습이
사실과 얼마나 먼 지를 확인하고 싶어하는 나와 같은 남한동포들이
많이 있을 것이기 때문이다.
평양의 옥류관에서 만난 여인들은 하나같이 '곱고(예쁘다는 표현과는
분명히 구분이 된다)' '당찬' 모습을 지니고 있었다.
노래 가사 중 '심장에 남는 사람'이라는 표현은 우리식의 '마음에 간직한
사람'일 터인데 그 차이가 주는 느낌이 얼마나 다른지를 헤아려 보는
것만으로도 남북동포간의 정서의 차이를 느낄 수 있었다.
기념사진을 위한 포즈를 부탁하며 여형이 '남남북녀' 운운하며 너스레를
떨자 '북녀'는 '남남'에게 이렇게 멋지게 한 방을 날려주었다.
"그 말씀은 선생님이 잘났다는 말씀이십네까?"
이 말에 우리는 어느 코미디언의 '니북'사투리 흉내를 떠올리고 대번에
폭소를 떠뜨렸지만, 이것은 또 다시 우리의 오류임을 깨닫게 되었다.
남남북녀라는 말을 알고 있다면, 나는 과연 그 '북녀'가 맞으나 당신은
그 '남남'이 정말 맞다고 생각하느냐...
남정네의 수작을 받아치는 여인네의 표현으로 그만큼 여유있고 당찬
표현이 있을까.
때묻지 않은 순수함, 우리에겐 그 의미가 많이 희석되고 퇴색되었을 게
분명한 민족적 '자존감' 같은 것이 고스란히 보유되어있는 옥류관 여인들의
모습을 통해 가슴이 뻐근해지는 경험을 하게된 것은 내게도 어떤 순수한
'동포애'가 남아있다는 의미일 것이다.
