아주 특별한 축하

퇴근이 지난 고요한 시간에 사무실에 머무를 수 있었으므로
주변정리를 겸하여 실로 오랫만의 '혼자만의 시간'을 즐기고 있는데
난 데 없는 꽃배달 서비스의 전화를 받았다.
꽃이라...... 누가..? 왜..?
도무지 짚히는 데가 없어 아무래도 잘못된 배달일 거라 생각하고 있었는데
배달된 각양각색의 화사한 꽃다발 더미에 꽂힌 메시지를 보니 상황이 짐작된다.
수상을 축하합니다. 최순희.--- 다름아닌 까사미아의 최순희 소장님이다.

어제 저녁 선재미술관에서 있었던 코리아 디자인 어워드-2004의 시상식장에
들어서니 반갑게 맞아주시는 여러 분 중에 최순희 소장님이 계셨고, 옆자리를
권하시기에 앉아 이런저런 이야기를 나누었다.
언제나처럼 총알같은 질문을 던지시는데 대뜸 '지난 한 해 최고의 수확이
무엇이냐'고 물으시니, 순간 지난 한 해 우리가 무슨 일을 했는지 머리 속에
떠오르는 이름이 하나도 없는 것이다. 열심히 살긴 살았는데...
자기 앞의 삶에 몰두하다보면 지금 이 순간의 일 이외에는 잘 기억이 나지
않는다고 임기응변의 대답을 드리니, 오히려, '멋져....'라는 말로 나를 치켜
올려 주신다. 아무튼, 이 잠깐의 대화는 시상식 때 갑작스런 수상소감을 요청
받아 당황하였을 때 위기를 모면하는 말머리를 제공해주었다.

축하인사와 더불어, 이전 우리가 작업하였던 까사미아의 '획기적인' 브로슈어를
언급하시면서, 아직도 사내 디자이너 중에는 그 브로슈어가 나달나달해지도록
간직하고 있는 이들이 있노라고, 정말 인상적인 작업이었다는 말씀까지를 더해
주시니 정말 디자이너로서 받을 수 있는 최고의 찬사가 아닐 수 없다.
멋져... 그는 정말 멋진 클라이언트다.
게다가 어젯밤의 그와 같은 풍성한 축하와 격려에 더하여 오늘 꽃을 보내시다니...
이건 정말 상상조차 하지 못했던 과분한 축하가 아닐 수 없다.
나도 누구에겐가 그만큼의 특별한 마음 준 적 있던가.
그 마음 넉넉히 전한 적 있던가...

오늘 내가 받은 그의 그 특별한 마음에 깊은 감사를 보낸다...
